The right to decide about our own bodies, our sexuality and our reproduction is one of the most fundamental human rights, but far from guaranteed to all women:
• 800 women die every day from preventable causes during pregnancy and childbirth.
• 47,000 women die annually from unsafe abortions, the vast majority in countries where access to safe and legal abortions is punishable by law.
Inequality and discrimination limit the control and decision-making capacity that women have over their own bodies. Women and girls are the ones who suffer most from sexual and reproductive health problems and whose sexual and reproductive rights are violated most often.
We work to enable women to make their own decisions about their bodies without discrimination, threats, or violence.
The multiple forms of violence against women and girls constitute one of the most flagrant violations of human rights. Worldwide:
La violencia atenta contra la vida de las mujeres y tiene un impacto enorme en su integridad física y psicológica, en su autonomía y libertad de movimiento. Limita sus posibilidades de participar de forma plena en la sociedad y tiene un coste personal, social y económico enorme.
We work so that all women can live a life free of violence.
The full realization of economic rights of women is key to achieving equality between men and women, reducing poverty, and ensuring fair, equitable, and sustainable development. However:
Inequalities in the economic sphere are a determining factor in gender relations and power. Higher economic empowerment of women is related not only to a greater ability to choose and make strategic decisions in the economic sphere, but can also have a positive impact on other areas of their lives, providing greater autonomy and decision-making capacity.
We work for a more just economic system, to ensure effective enjoyment of women's economic rights.
Access to and control over economic resources, job opportunities and shared responsibility with men helps foster women's autonomy and decision making capabilities.
